Say a verb does not happen politely (ません)

Replace ます with ません to say that an action does not happen or that you will not do something in polite speech.

Polite non-past negative: does not / will not do

Japanese expresses negation inside the verb ending. To make a verb negative in polite speech, replace 〜ます (masu) with 〜ません (masen):

It covers both habitual negative states ('I do not drink coffee') and future decisions ('I will not attend tomorrow').
