Overview

This privacy policy applies to the Hanamaru Quiz applications (for iOS and macOS) and the hanamarujapanese.com reference website. We design our products with privacy first: we collect as little data as possible and do not track you.

The Website (hanamarujapanese.com)

The reference website is entirely free, requires no account, and runs without web trackers:

• No analytics or tracking: We do not run any web analytics (such as Google Analytics or TelemetryDeck), tracking pixels, or third-party monitoring scripts on the website.
• No advertising: The site contains no ads and creates no behavioral or advertising profiles.
• Functional cookies only: The site uses a single, strictly functional cookie (`locale`) solely to remember your chosen language preference. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
• Contact form: If you submit a message through the support form, we receive your name, email address, and message solely to respond to your inquiry. We never sell, rent, or share this information.

The Native App (iOS & macOS)

The Hanamaru Quiz app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac does not collect personal data and requires no account. Specifically:

• No personal information: No name, location, or typed study inputs are collected or transmitted.
• iCloud sync: Your study progress and stamp collection sync across your Apple devices using Apple’s CloudKit framework. Data is stored in your personal, private iCloud container and managed by Apple. We cannot access your iCloud data.
• Optional usage statistics: Only in the native app, and only if you explicitly choose to turn it on, the app counts aggregate feature usage (such as a completed quiz). This is off by default, completely anonymous (salted and hashed on-device), and processed by TelemetryDeck on EU servers without advertising or cross-app tracking.

Any identifiers involved in the app are used strictly to support internal feature counting and are never used to contact or profile anyone.

Third-Party Services

Neither the website nor the app shares your data with advertisers or data brokers. Apart from optional, opt-in app usage statistics processed by TelemetryDeck on EU servers, we do not integrate with third-party data collection services.

Children’s Privacy

Neither Hanamaru Quiz nor hanamarujapanese.com collects personal information from anyone, including children. Both the website and the application are completely safe for learners of all ages.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version on this page with an updated effective date.
