After a place or time word, から means 'from' a starting point and often pairs with まで for the end point. After a clause or reason, the same から means 'because', explaining why something is so.
Tips and Common Traps
Hana· Key point
から is one word that does double duty — space/time start and reasons. Once you notice it, you'll hear it everywhere in natural Japanese.
Maru· Common trap
から meaning 'because' attaches straight to the clause that gives the reason: 寒いから (because it's cold). Plain form before it is the everyday choice; 寒いですから is also correct and just sounds more formal.
