How it works
The topic 亀 (turtle) is set by は (topic), then two contrasting descriptions are joined by けど (but): 遅い (slow) and かわいい (cute). けど (but) links the clauses casually — "slow, but cute" — and nothing here is made polite, so it sounds offhand and warm.
