How it works
This is a gentle “don’t” request. 泣く (cry) first goes negative to 泣かない (don’t cry), then takes the て (te-form) ending to become 泣かないで (please don’t cry). The pattern [verb-negative] + で ((don’t)) is the soft way to ask someone not to do something.
