How it works
The noun 歌手 (singer) is followed by なんですか (is it that…?), a softer, more curious way to ask than a plain です (is) + か (question). The ん (explanatory) in the middle adds a sense of "so you mean you're a…?" — seeking explanation, not just a yes/no fact.
