How it works

ただいま (I'm home) is a set greeting you call out as you walk in the door. Then comes a common idiom: literally “the stomach became empty.” が (subject) marks お腹(おなか) (stomach) as the subject, and 空いた(すいた) (became empty) is the plain past of 空く(すく) (to empty). Japanese describes hunger as something happening to your stomach, not as “I am hungry.” The plain past with no polite ending keeps it casual.
