How it works

Two short clauses sit side by side. First the cause: が (subject) marks 喉(のど) (throat) as what's doing the action, and 渇いた(かわいた) (got dry) is the plain past of 渇く(かわく) (to get dry). Then the request: casual ちょうだい (give me) drops any particle after 水(みず) (water), so it sounds like an everyday "water, please" between friends.
