How it works

Japanese says literally “a bicycle exists” where English says “I have a bicycle”. が (subject) points out the subject (自転車じてんしゃ (bicycle)), and ある (exists) is the verb of existence used for non-living things (いる (exists, living) is the one for people and animals). It stays in the plain form ある (exists) rather than polite あります (exists, polite), so it sounds casual.
