How it works

To say you want to become something, the noun takes に (into) (marking the result of becoming) and pairs with なりたい (want to become). That ending is なる (to become) plus the desire suffix 〜たい (want to), which turns a verb into an i-adjective describing your wish. So 芸術家げいじゅつか (artist) + に (into) + なりたい (want to become) = "I want to become an artist".
