How it works

Japanese puts the verb last: topic, then object, then action. は (topic) marks 蜘蛛(くも) (spider) as what the sentence is about, を (object) marks 巣(す) (web) as the thing being acted on, and 張る(はる) (weave) comes at the very end. It stays in plain dictionary form with no polite です (is) or ます (polite), so it reads like a simple statement of fact.
